GRADE FIVE
P E A C E M A K E R S
Having trouble in the playground?
Maybe a disagreement or no
one to play with? Look for a
peacemaker. Our peer-to-peer
program not only helps the
younger kids resolve their conflicts,
it also builds leadership and
empathy in our fifth graders who
are tasked with listening, problem
solving and mentoring.

Using interactive software, group activities and
discussion, a specialist teaches students the
basics of financial life. How do you save money?
What is debt? Why do we pay taxes? Students
even look at the questions of everyday life:
What does it cost to feed, clothe and house a
family? As
kids grapple
with the rules
of the road,
the seeds
of financial
ethics take
root.

Things are hopping – and
leaping, tumbling, spinning
and balancing as the
gymnastics club takes the floor
during lunch time. Older kids
help the younger ones use low
beams, high beams, vaults,
mats and more.

Students lead their first Rosh
Chodesh service in Beth
Tzedec's Hendeles Chapel.
The ceremony is a celebration
of citizenship as our T'fillah
leaders recite the blessings for
an aliyah and chant from the
Torah. The service connects
our children with the beauty of
prayer and lays the
groundwork for
their Bar and Bat
Mitzvah year.
