GRADE THREE
THE PHYSICS OF TOYS
In this STEM project, students build toys using their
knowledge of force, gravity, push/pull and friction.
Amazingly, the children are able to create their very
own toys such as fishing games, Plinko and a robot.
MY ROOM / HA'CHEDER SHELI
As inspiring young interior designers, students create
their dream bedroom in an immersive exercise in
Hebrew. Utilizing critical and design thinking skills,
coupled with the appropriate Hebrew terminology,
students plan their new space. They start by taking
pictures of their bedroom and then use their
imagination to redesign it. They research concepts and
develop a plan reflecting individuality, functionality
and basic design principles. Students build a model
and proudly present it to their class in Hebrew.
SHABBAT LEADERS
Students welcome Shabbat at a special, grade-wide
ceremony. Our students lead Kabbalat Shabbat and
showcase their ritual skills in kindling the Shabbat
lights, reciting kiddush over grape juice and singing
hamotzi over the challah. Each student creates their own
keepsake challah cover. Next Friday night, let your little
learner lead your family Friday dinner and share their
enthusiasm for Shabbat. You will be amazed!
ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDS
Utilizing lessons learned about plants and soil,
students design and build a community garden. They
learn about the properties of soil, how to test soils and
maintain living compost systems that thrive in Ontario.
The Garden Project supports creative thinking,
collaboration, mentorship and the importance of
protecting the environment. Students become the
experts as they mentor and assist Grade 1 students
with the garden.
