RHA Students Rank in the World's Top Tier in Math INTERNATIONAL CARIBOU MATH COMPETITION Grades 3/4: Five students ranked in the top 5% worldwide. Lielle Lichtman, Charley Levy, Jake Starkman, Ronni Wienberg, Nina Weinstock Grades 7/8: Four RHA students came in the top 10% of all students worldwide. Tal Davis, Benjamin Lazarus, Talia Levitt, Levi Shem-Tov Grades 5/6: Nine students placed in the top 20% worldwide. Rebekah Bloom, Jonah Kowal, Ben Macklin, Harley Malamed, Shawna Pervin, Daniel Rimer, Abe Schwartz, Benji Switzman, Koby Tick PYTHAGORAS MATHEMATICA CONTEST The contest drills students on challenging math questions and weighs outcomes against the national average. Students who scored above the national average were honoured with Certificates of Distinction and our top scoring students were: Rebekah Bloom, Noa Garmaise, Koby Gottlieb, Shawna Pervin, Andrew Soberman GAUSS MATHEMATICS CONTEST Each year the University of Waterloo's Centre for Education in Mathematics and Computing (CEMC) holds the Gauss Mathematics Contest. Congratulations to our grade 7 and 8 students who received Distinction and Outstanding Achievement awards. Hannah Damiani, Ari Freedman, Ellie Joseph, Talia Levitt, Claire Lipton, Ryan Silver, Levi Shem-Tov 2016 National Bible Contest RHA sent 17 middle school students to the Regional Bible Contest and all of them qualified for the Nationals. Six students from RHA made it to the semi-finals and our amazing Ellie Joseph placed third in Canada. Finalist - Ellie Joseph Semi-finalists - Rebekah Bloom, Tal Davis, Talia Levitt, Claire Lipton, Zoe Zusman Participants: Sloan Avrich, Joseph Berman, Ellie Chapnick, Hannah Damiani, Ari Freedman, Noa Garmaise, Keren Gorman, Miles Kirsh, Dylan Malamed, Ryan Silverberg, Jamie Smith Jewish Day Schools Debate Tournament Seven schools and 28 teams competed in an all-day debate tournament. After nail-biting semi-final rounds, three RHA teams remained unbeaten and earned the highest cumulative scores. Then came the championship: RHA v Leo Baeck. With a masterful performance, Talia Levitt and Danielle Wohl brought home the trophy for RHA. Ironically, they debated the resolution: "Losing is better than winning." Royal Canadian Legion Literary Competition Grade 8 students submitted essays and poems on the subject of remembrance and the awards flowed! Justin Eisen won two awards for his poem, Black and Red. Danielle Wohl won an award for her poem, Not Just Remembering. Talia Levitt won three awards for her essay, Remembrance. Centre for Jewish Education Creative Writing Contest Winners Prose, poetry, plays, fiction and non-fiction – these are just some of genres that RHA students submitted for this year's Toronto-wide writing contest. And the winners are… Ryan Allen (Grade 8) – Dear God, I Want You to Know Olivia Diament (Grade 3) – Dear God, I Want You to Know Kaylie Ezer (Grade 2) – A Visitor at the Seder Noa Garmaise (Grade 6) – A Family Tradition Shira Granovsky (Grade 3) – Dear God, I Want You to Know Talia Levitt (Grade 8) – We Are All Different but Equal Jack and Marlene Brudner Award Ellie Joseph was honored with the Jack and Marlene Brudner Award, given to a student who demonstrates extraordinary interest and achievement in Jewish Studies, community service and school life. Ellie's scholarship, dedication and kindness shines through everything she does. We are so proud Ellie is part of the RHA community. Our Students Rise to the Top RHA Senior Boys Ultimate Frisbee Team placed first in the Jewish Day School Tournament. The Junior Basketball Team finished the regular season undefeated 6-0 as they headed into the final tournament. Incredibly, our team was the only one in the league to win nine out of ten games.
