Every year, RHA welcomes two top
Israeli high school graduates into our
school, into our community and into
our hearts. These young men and
women defer army service for one year
to be part of UJA's Shinshinim program.
After an exhaustive interview process,
the best of the best are chosen to
work with schools and synagogues
throughout North America, and to give
children an up-close glimpse of our
homeland. The Shinshinim
bring with them lessons
about Israeli culture,
food, history and
life.

If you want to learn the game
of chess, just ask a second
grader at RHA. For 8 weeks each
year, the acclaimed
Chess Institute of
Canada teaches
our students to
concentrate,
strategize and
work in teams.
Chess is not only
fun, it teaches kids the
most complex reasoning skills –
and they don't even know it.

Just what is an unsinkable boat?
For our grade 2 class, that was the
topic of a mini-challenge that had
students planning their creations.
What makes a boat float? What
makes it sink? How do you make
something watertight? What is
absorption? Learning
to ask the critical
questions
is just the
first step in
this STEM
exercise.

Parents, grandparents, siblings
and friends are invited to our
student-led Seder that tells
the story of our exodus from
Egypt through blessings, song
and dance. The table is filled
with food, Seder plates, hand-
crafted decorations and, most
importantly, the voices of our
children who have learned
the importance of freedom,
then and now.
